Between Two Worlds
I write from two locations
because I live between two worlds…..
Near one coast on the east, in Florida.
And on one coast on the west, in Washington state.
Two different worlds:
One where I raised my children.
One where I was raised.
One where the sun brightens blue skies almost daily.
One where grey clouds hang over head.
One is where I live, in the wonderful house where I have raised my family,
But the other is home, a tiny little cottage by the sea
nestled in the land of my longing.
Where evergreens rise out of the earth and touch the sky with their spindles…
Where salt water meets rocky shores and seagulls chatter above…
Where Mt Rainier stands solo on precious cloudless days gracing the sky with its snow-capped glaciers…
a testament to solidity, beauty and strength.
The place of our longing is the place for which we were created.
We live between two worlds:
the place we inhabit here on earth
and the place we long to inhabit in heaven.
I write to reconcile these two places--
between the place where we are and
the place of our longing.
The place of our longing is the place for which we were created.
The spaces around us, the space where we dwell
Is a reflection of our heart, the place where God dwells with in us.
Our dwelling places
are the spaces where we make Him real.
We design places to reflect His peace, his desire to shelter us.
His desire to make us whole.
He fashions and creates something out of nothing
He is the author of change from broken pieces .
We will acquire peace and wholeness in this process
He is making ready something new He will bring about change on the inside of our hearts and homes
As a result we will bring about change in our home, community the world
There is a place in the book of Ephesians that says we are “built on the foundation…with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone…and in him you are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his spirit.” Ephesians 2:22
Our hearts can be a dwelling God inhabits to reflect his true nature, his character of love, compassion, service.
Our homes can be a dwelling that God inhabits to reflect his true nature of hospitality, nurturing, shelter.
In the place God inhabits, we can find peace. The original meaning of peace in Greek means “ the binding or joining together again of that which had been separated or divided and thus setting at one again.”
Jesus made that possible by his work on the cross: “For he himself is our peace, he made two groups one and destroyed the barrier.” Ephesians 2:14
One day, we will not live between two worlds.
in memory of my father, Jesus Clemente Bermudez, who celebrates his 101 st birthday today in heaven.
