Rescue

We discovered this hollowed heart shaped trunk on a morning beachwalk.

Who knows how long it drifted in the tide before it washed ashore.

My friend and I rescued it by lassoing a rope around its girth and pulling it across the shoreline during high tide.

Its landing place on my cottage porch is a reminder of rescue and renewal after a time of drifting.

Have you found yourself drifting in a sea of change lately?

Relationships, status, faith, health.

Empty nesting, grief, loss, transition.

The waters in front of my little cottage remind me daily that change occurs quickly and easily in the tide

Rescuing the drifting stump is a parable of how we have been rescued.

Recovered from a swirling sea of change.

Our rescuer threw out a long scarlet cord

to recover us from the overwhelming current.

He longs to fill that hollow heart shaped space

that we easily fill with so many other broken pieces…

…people, possessions, titles, homes.

That hollow heart shaped space that was designed to be filled with Himself.

The word fullness used here in Hebrew, mᵉlôʼ, means that which fills, entire contents.

In the rising of the sun

And the rising of the moon

In the witness of his glory in the sun or in the fog.

His glory looms in every corner of this earth everywhere

reminding us

He is here to fill those empty spaces.
